Overview
Tape-out refers to the final result of the design process for integrated circuits or printed circuit boards. It is the point at which the graphic description of the circuit is sent to the fabrication facility to begin the manufacturing of the silicon masks and the initial wafers. While a major milestone, it precedes the testing, validation, and mass production phases.
