Apple will hold a special event at 11 PM (Japan time) on May 7. Titled "Let Loose," the invitation featuring colorful graphics and a human hand holding an Apple Pencil suggests the arrival of a new Apple Pencil, but combined with previous rumors, it's expected to be an event where the long-awaited new iPad Pro and iPad Air models will appear.
Expectations for a new iPad have been building since no event was held in October 2023. In recent years, iPad events have been held in the fall, but since no event took place last year, and considering that the last iPad Pro update was in October 2022 and the current iPad Air was released in March 2022, many people have surely been waiting to see when the next update would come.
At this event, four iPad models are expected to be announced.
In the new iPad Pro lineup, both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models will switch to OLED displays. Additionally, the new iPad Pro is said to feature a design that is significantly thinner than the previous model.
Other rumored updates for the iPad Pro include a matte screen option, the aforementioned landscape front camera, and the possible inclusion of MagSafe wireless charging.
For the iPad Air lineup, a 12.9-inch form factor will be added for the first time, alongside the existing 10.9-inch size. According to recent rumors, the 12.9-inch model may also adopt a mini-LED display.
A new Apple Pencil is also expected to be unveiled. This one is said to potentially feature magnetically interchangeable tips that simulate different writing and drawing tools. Additionally, it's rumored to include new gesture controls operated by squeezing the device.
Finally, an updated Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro is also anticipated. According to multiple reports, the new Magic Keyboard will feature "a design that brings the iPad Pro closer to a MacBook," including a more rigid frame made of aluminum.
