The European Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is an astronomical observatory being built by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in the Atacama Desert of Chile. With a 39-meter primary mirror, it will be the largest optical/near-infrared telescope in the world, aimed at studying exoplanets, the first stars in the universe, and supermassive black holes.
