Apple has redesigned the new iPad Pro to be remarkably thin, and it appears the company is planning a similar redesign to make the iPhone thinner as well, with plans to release a new "slim" iPhone in 2025, according to a report from The Information.

The Biggest Design Leap Since the iPhone X

The Information reports, based on multiple sources, that Apple plans to introduce this slim iPhone as one of the new lineups in the iPhone 17 series.

This model is said to represent "the biggest leap in design language since the iPhone X" for Apple, suggesting it will be a major redesign. That said, the design has not yet been finalized, and the company is reportedly still exploring various possibilities, including an aluminum chassis.

The new "slim" iPhone 17 is said to feature a 6.6-inch display, positioned between the base model's 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 17 Pro Max's 6.9-inch screen. Incidentally, display analyst Ross Young, known for extremely accurate information, had previously reported that the new iPhone's display would be 6.55 inches.

As for other design elements of this new iPhone, the front camera may be housed in a small pill-shaped cutout along with the Face ID sensor, and the rear camera array may move from its current position on the left side to the center.

In a separate topic from The Information's report, analyst and leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that the iPhone 16 Pro Max, slated for release in 2024, may adopt a new battery with increased energy density. Since this new battery generates more heat due to the increased density, it will reportedly use a stainless steel battery case for the first time to dissipate heat. If this new battery design proves successful, it could be adopted across all models in 2025, and would likely be used in this new slim iPhone 17.

It's also worth noting that this slim iPhone 17 is expected to be the most luxurious iPhone yet, priced even higher than the current most expensive model, the iPhone Pro Max.

When it comes to slimming down, durability is naturally a concern, but the new iPad Pro has also adopted a design that addresses such concerns, and it reportedly holds up well even under grueling tests by YouTubers. We can only hope that the new iPhone will offer durability equal to or better than previous models.
