市場調査会社IDCの最新の調査報告によると、2024年第1四半期における世界のPC出荷台数は5980万台となり、前年同期比1.5%の成長率を記録し、ついに数年ぶりに成長に転じたとのことだ。
Looking back, the Q1 2023 market had declined 28.7% year-over-year, marking a historic low. According to IDC, this year not only saw a return to growth, but in terms of unit volume, the market has finally returned to pre-pandemic levels. Incidentally, shipments in Q1 2019 stood at 60.5 million units.
The average growth rate across all manufacturers was a not-so-impressive 1.5% year-over-year increase, but Apple's Mac shipments grew 14.6% in Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023—nearly ten times the overall growth rate—putting Apple in first place in terms of growth rate, even though it doesn't lead in unit volume. Acer came in second with 9.2% growth, followed by Lenovo in third with 7.8% growth.
In terms of unit volume, Lenovo ranked first with 23%, HP came in second with 20.1%, and Dell was third with 15.5%.

Inflation rates are declining in most regions of the world, and as a result, PC shipments are beginning to recover. However, IDC points out that deflationary pressures in China are affecting the global PC market, as weak demand for desktop PCs in the country caused PC demand there to decline again in Q4.
IDC's Jitesh Ubrani commented: "Despite the struggles in China, we expect recovery to continue through 2024 as new AI PCs hit store shelves in the second half of the year and commercial buyers begin refreshing PCs purchased during the pandemic. Alongside growth in shipment volumes, we also expect AI PC pricing to rise, creating further business opportunities for PC makers and component manufacturers."
