AGENTS.md is a standardized configuration file placed in the root directory of software projects. It serves as a 'passive context' source for AI agents, containing project-specific instructions, documentation indexes, and API references. Unlike active tool-calling (skills), the contents of AGENTS.md are automatically injected into the system prompt, ensuring the agent always has access to the most relevant and up-to-date project information without needing to decide to look it up.
