Microscaling Formats (MX) are a set of industry-standard data formats (such as MXFP8 and MXINT8) defined by the Open Compute Project (OCP). They allow for extremely low-precision AI inference by using shared scaling factors across blocks of data, maintaining high accuracy while significantly reducing memory bandwidth and storage requirements.
