The Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor (MOSFET) is the most common type of transistor used in digital and analog circuits. It works by varying the width of a channel along which charge carriers flow. The gate is insulated from the channel by a thin layer of metal oxide, allowing for high input impedance and low power consumption, making it ideal for high-density integrated circuits like CPUs and memory.
