MIT Puts an Air-Stable, Over-One-Inch Monolayer Superconducting Film onto Quantum Circuits
An MIT research team has developed "encapsulation epitaxy," a technique for growing a monolayer superconductor within the sub-1-nm gap between graphene and a substrate, achieving an air-stable $\text{NbSe}_2$ thin film over one inch in size. This offers an atomic-scale solution to the area problem that has hindered miniaturization of superconducting quantum circuits.
